In this Montefiore Lecture, the University of Oxford’s Professor Alison Salvesen discusses the role Hebrew scholarship played in the development of the early Church, even as the latter began to embrace an early form of anti-Semitism. (And some decidedly fake monasteries.)
Professor Salvesen’s lecture was given at the University of Southampton on 5 November 2019, and was organised by the Parkes Institute, one of the world’s leading centres for the study of Jewish/non-Jewish relations. The Montefiore Memorial lecture takes place every year, and is part of a series of events organised by the Institute.
