Everyone in the Americas who isn’t in the USA has given up trying to explain to them. They aren’t capable.
Nobody in Canada wants to be called American.
This is a language and continent model issue, the lack of understanding is not in the side of the Americans or the rest of the anglosphere.
I mean how dare we refer to people using the name that they refer to themselves with.
And what if they decided to start calling themselves Earthlings and use it to describe only themselves specifically?
Are you jealous of Americans having a demonym and scared they’re going to claim another XD
Neither.
I’m embarrassed because I can’t call myself American as a Canadian because it’s self-deprecating by association.
Confusingly, Mexico’s official name is Estados Unidos Mexicanos. You could accurately describe a Mexican as Estadounidense, if you wanted to be a pedant.
There’s no continent named Mexico, so I think things will be ok for now
But there’s a Gulf! Oh wait nvm.
We can fix the problem by calling it Gulf of United States
There’s no continent named America either, so that is not confusing.
Those on the continent of North America are north Americans, those on the continent of South America are south Americans, only those from the USA are just American.
The Americas are two completely different continents, with two distinct continental plates, connected by an isthmus.
Thanks for anglosplaining. Now go look at a wikipedia page or two to see how there are different definitions for continents
Right, but any definition that has those two land masses as a single continent is objectively wrong.
Same with Eurasia being two, just eurocentric quackery.
And anybody getting worked up about Americans calling ourselves Americans are flatly on the wrong side of this.
I think a little translation is necessary. I don’t speak it.
Unitedstatesian.
Northamerican.
American.
I was expecting a cup of coffee
No, guapo uwu
