This is my thinking - as far as I know he actually called it that as a reference to jif peanut butter.
Saying it with a hard G because ‘graphical’ has a hard G is a reason based on something beyond hubris.
It’s a reason that doesn’t hold true even in our most common acronyms: SCUBA, RADAR, and NASA.
So, no…pretending that something is an actual rule of English acronyms just because you think it really ought to be is exactly still hubris.
