Long story short, my otherwise perfectly healthy partner had to go through brain surgery earlier today due to a clot in her brain causing two mini-strokes. She’s fine now and expected to make a full recovery with no lasting damage but man it was so scary :c
We’re barely in our mid-20s this sort of shit isn’t supposed to happen! She has to stay at the hospital until Sunday and we don’t know if there will be rehab and stuff involved. We do know that the docs are going to try their best to find out why it happened.
I feel morbidly vindicated in my impostor syndrome telling me life was going a bit too well in more or less all aspects lately, so this kind of thing feels deserved somehow (for me not for her she’s the most precious thing on earth and deserve only good things)
No real point just wanted to yell into the void a bit. My family and friends are all great for support so I’ll be fine.
Sorry to hear that. A word of advice - don’t let them fob her off by delaying or under-treating any symptoms she has. I had a stroke and first my rehabilitation was delayed because of covid, and then what was meant to be physio every 6 weeks was more like every 6 months because of the NHS backlog and waiting times. I am STILL on the waiting list to see the neurophysios, haven’t seen them at all yet. Long story short - I now have permanent damage that might have been avoided. Balance and co ordination problems, weak left side that I can’t use properly - this causes issues with walking and other daily activities. Fight for her to make sure she gets what she needs. I don’t have anyone to fight for me and it feels like I’ve been left to rot.
I hope the blairites responsible for your treatment (or lack thereof) burn in whatever hell they believe in. Fortunately, my partner has been treated amazingly so far and it even seems like she’s generated some buzz among the docs because the situation is so rare. She’s recovering super well and saw a physiotherapist today and will see a rehab gymnast (is that the term?) tomorrow.
That’s good to hear. I wish her all the best for a speedy recovery.
Oh and would you dm me your money-sendy details? I know you’re struggling and as cliche as it seems, after going through all this I’d like to help out another stroke victim in a way i know matters <3
Hang in there, hope she makes a speedy recovery!
<3
of good vibes
wao
Jeez, that sounds terrifying. I’m glad to hear she’s alright and I hope you’re okay too.
She’s ok now! It all feels a bit unreal after a night of sleep
This stuff is so scary to face down. I’ve been there a couple of times with loved ones. It really reminds you of our mortality and the capriciousness of life’s chaos.
But now your partner will have had a barrage of tests and scans so whatever issue caused this can be managed and you’ll more or less know with some confidence that a lot of other scary stuff has been ruled out.
It sounds like your partner got relatively lucky given how serious this sort of shit can be, I’m glad she’s going to be okay. What I can tell you though is I’ve watched two people I love have bad brain things happen and they have basically recovered fully. One of them was probably 3x as old as your partner is.
It is a life changing experience obviously, but the brain is incredibly good at healing or working around damage. Neuroplasticity is amazing. Being so young, even if there is some temporary setbacks, I am certain she will bounce back. You guys might even find new beauty in life now that you’ve experienced how fragile and contingent it is.
Be kind to yourself, as kind as you are to her at minimum. You are valuable and loved.
Thanks for sharing your experience. It means a lot!
You deserve good things. I hope it all works out.
Omg blessed by stinky owl
nobody deserves clots in the brains of themselves or their loved ones. there is no such thing. do you think you are such a unique and world historical figure that your badness has rubbed off in a new way, previously unseen? imho that is too self important, get off that horse.
it sounds like all of humanity’s collective resources have wrapped themselves around you and your partner to save her from the clots like an inside hug. science and compassion are doing their best because youse are valued. it is objective. i can say anything on the internet but you are there and can see the resources.
Completely agree with this. You both deserve good, healthy lives.
Take care of yourself and your partner, Comrade!
GOOD post, thanks comrade <3
If your partner deserves grace and she loves you, that grace should extend to you as well. Bad things happen to good people all the time for no reason. It has nothing to do with your or her qualities.
You’re so right. I guess i was trying to do some gallows humor or something in the op, not really sure what came over me :c
Wishing her a speedy recovery and all the best to you two.
Love <3
She made it through this, and you guys will make it through other things, too. Being so young, you have a much higher likelihood of being able to handle the terrible things like this that life can throw at you than not, even for decades to come.
You’re so right, thanks you ❤️
