Amazing how both the SU’s and the USA’s terminal gerontocracies mimic their collapse.

The SU had people in their 60s and early 70s, worn down early from decades of constant struggle and siege, falling apart from exhaustion.

The USA has increasingly senile racist misogynynistic members of the ruling class. Pushing out sentences increasingly disconnected with reality as their ideology slips away from material conditions. Lashing out internationally randomly to maintain control. And increasingly domestically as the sphere of action shrinks.

The SU had successive heart attacks. The USA is sundowning.

I think our Yeltsin is gonna be Greg Abbot or Gavin Newsom, but who do you think will be the Gorbachev that gets brought in to do reform and ends up cracking the whole thing open?

Honestly, I think that’s Trump. With the caveat that he’s been brought in to crack the whole thing open in a way that will certainly fail. And the attempts at unjamming the situation will crack it open in a far more serious way.

The other answer is Bill Clinton.
