What if I told you they don’t qualify for their EMT certification so municipal fire departments won’t hire them, leaving only temporary seasonal work that pays slightly more than minimum wage if those places will even hire felons?

What if I further told you many rural cities/towns don’t even have a publicly funded fire department? That it’s privately funded via donations and the first responders are volunteers? (Or a mix of cops (paid obviously), EMT (also paid, but shittily), and firefighters who could be paid or volunteer))
Arguably the first or second most important (with cops being not on the list) people for “saving your life if you get in accident or home is on fire” just being like an afterthought. It’s fucking psychotic shit. Any sane society would instantly start firing cops until the fire department is fully funded.
