3 weeks ago, when Malibu was burning down, I pointed out that LA has had at least 3 wildfires burning within 60 miles of the city center, continuously, for around 6 months.

I quipped that LA probably wouldn’t burn to the ground.

Welp, now we’ve got 2 fires destroying thousands of homes inside the actual proper city limits of LA., and the Eaton fire is either encroaching on or actually chewing through Pasadena and Altadena.

Water pressure is apparently shot, and wind conditions are apparently so bad that flame removedent cannot be delivered en masse by air.

Hope everyone has gas masks and/or hepa filters.

EDIT: Dear god, we’ve got random homeowners filling up firetrucks with water in Altadena, because their homes just randomly happen to have water while the hydrants are all fucked… all while the house next door is burned to the ground, still aflame.

    LA may literally be cooked.

    EDIT 2:

    https://www.reuters.com/world/us/los-angeles-wildfire-economic-loss-estimates-top-50-bln-2025-01-08/

The fires are still basically 0% contained, and the estimated damage is already $50 billion dollars.

The cost estimates for Helene, a hurricane that just ravaged multiple entire states, range from $30 to $250 billion.

The Palisades fire is currently advancing south toward the Santa Monica pier.

    EDIT 3:

    https://www.politico.com/news/2025/01/08/los-angeles-fires-insurance-california-00197196

State Farm dropped nearly 70 percent of its policies in the Pacific Palisades neighborhood last year, according to a state filing

So yeah, LA county is probably now about as fucked as Florida is in terms of homeowners insurance.

2 Elementary schools have burned down, entire school district of LA USD is closed tomorrow.

… Also, the Hollywood Hills are currently on fire.

    EDIT 4:

Yeah holy shit, the West Hollywood Hills… the walk of fame, capitol records, the chinese theatre, everywhere between mulholland drive and hollywood boulevard… basically the center of Hollywood just got a mandatory evacuation zone order.

The fire must have quadrupled in size in the 30 minutes I’ve been watching.

    … fuckin…welp.

This could actually burn down the hill, down south, basically into the heart of LA.

    EDIT 5:

    Its the morning now.

Watching local news. News reporter describes how a woman drove through many blocks of a completely burned down area in the Palisades…

Hoping to buy her morning milkshake coffee from Starbucks.

The Starbucks is burned to the ground, of course… and there’s no power or water for blocks.

But she still needs her morning milkshake coffee.

… The treats are gone now lady, this is what we all get for pretending the treats will always be here.
