GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — For the third time this year, vandals have targeted University of Michigan regent Jordan Acker.

In a social media post, Acker, his wife and their three children were asleep at their home early Monday morning when they heard two objects crash through a window.

“I ran downstairs, saw the broken window, and then ran outside to find my wife’s car had been graffitied by anti-Semitic vandals,” Acker wrote.

The truck was tagged with red spray paint and read “Divest” and “Free Palestine.” It likely refers to the on-campus push for the university to divest its interests from companies that are connected to the Israeli military campaign in Gaza.

Acker, who is Jewish, called on other members of the community to publicly admonish vandalism and ethnic intimidation.

“We need to call out this cowardly act attacking my family and my home for what it truly is — terrorism,” Acker wrote. “And like we always do in this great nation when we’re confronted with terrorism — I will not let fear win. All this does is harden my resolve to continue to do the right thing for the University and the Michigan voters who elected me.”

Michigan State Rep. Haley Stevens, D-Birmingham, took to social media to condemn the latest act.

“Jordan Acker is a dedicated public servant and he and his family should be safe in their own home,” Stevens wrote. “Vandalism, violence and bigotry have no place in America. Enough. Our Jewish brothers and sisters deserve to live in security and peace.”

According to The Michigan Daily student newspaper, this is the third time Acker has been targeted by protesters this year. The first incident happened May 15 when a masked protester came to his home in the middle of the night with a list of demands for the regent. On June 3, his law firm’s office in Southfield was vandalized, again with references to divestment demands
