Yeah, it can be hard to tell people’s ages in old photos like that. Vsauce made a whole video about that phenomenon!

Sadly, he’s a pretty heavily sanitised national icon. He’s a folk hero, but his issues with Australia’s extremely corrupt police force are largely ignored or dismissed as a “product of their times” (ignoring the fact that the same colonial police from back then is still the foundation for the police of Australia to this day).
