In an interview before leaving office, Josep Borrell sounds the alarm about Russia's military superiority in its war of aggression in Ukraine and urges EU countries to "do more and quicker" to support Ukraine. "We don't have a sense of urgency." #EuropeNews
Even if Russia had USSR style economy, it wouldn’t be possible to roll over Ukraine without taking horrific losses in the process. Russian approach was to methodically grind down the AFU using artillery where Russia has 10x advantage. I doubt this process could’ve gone significantly faster in practice if Russia wanted to minimize casualties on their end. On top of it, I’d argue that dragging things out worked in Russia’s favor in the long run as it slowly depleted western economies, while allowing Russia to redirect trade and strengthen alliances within BRICS.
You might be right that the protracted nature of this conflict is working Russia’s favor. Regardless, I’m less confident in modern Russia and it’s chaotic ideological identity to endure and follow through with necessary measures as much as I would with Stalin era USSR.

No disagreement there.
