    The Biden administration defended the move on multiple grounds. It noted that the types of mines it is providing are “non-persistent,” meaning they become inert after a time.

    Unless the detonate like the FASCAM when their timer runs out, they aren’t inert.

    “They are electrically fused and require battery power to detonate. Once the battery runs out, they will not detonate,” said a U.S. official, who was granted anonymity to candidly explain the administration’s choice.

    But they can still be detonated.

    My hope… as unfounded as it may be… is that this is more of a psyop than an actual change in policy. Send a bunch of inert AP mines (literally inert, just training mines with no explosives) to be mixed in with the AT mines to slow down light fighter advances without increasing the future humanitarian crises Ukraine is going to have to deal with after the war ends.
