Why YSK: Vegetable based oil or oils that are not optimised for these specific purposes can fuck you over badly.

Regarding sun bathing, your skin will hate you, you will hate yourself and everything else. You will sizzle like a hot potato. Sun cream is your best friend, and as a former idiot who got sun poisoned recently “because the sun doesn’t seem so bright”, don’t take that chance. Please be responsible regarding your sun exposure.

Regarding intercourse

Whether you do it by yourself or with other people, water based lubricant is the way to go. Why? It’s crafted specifically for this purpose and it doesn’t screw over your ph(like coconut oil would, for example).

And why should you care about ph balance? Because it messes up your health, putting you at risk for infections(which are painful if left untreated). There are people who think they are immune to diseases just because. It doesn’t work like that. (Obligatory “pee after sex-or at least as soon as you can” mention to avoid UTIs, and for the love of everything that is around you, don’t put sugar based things on (your) genitals, again, infection risk, it’s needlessly sticky and not fun)

Also, use water based lube with condoms, as oil based lubricants will damage the condom and make it easier for it to break (silicone lube can damage some toys, so I personally recommend using water based lube with toys just to be safe).

I made this post because I heard people say that using olive oil for sun bathing is a good idea, and for the people who want to use baby oil or sunflower seed oil (I’m speechless at this point) to bone. It’s not a good idea to do this. Using proper lubrication increases the pleasure levels for everyone involved.

Using sun screen is also very important, please use it. Have fun, be safe, read the labels. Might update with some relevant links in the following days.

You know how it goes, fashion goes in cycles and so does everything else. Plus, new idiots are always born and somehow they manage to survive to the age where they do some of the most blatantly stupid shit…

I had to look it up, but apparent “sun poison” is a term for a severe sun burn? Is this a fairly new term, or has it been around for a while? This is the first time I’ve heard of “sun poisoning”…

Been around since I was 13 at the very least. Currently 31. My be regional or specific to the US though. I’m from western PA for reference.

Yeah, after I posted that I checked google trends and apparently it’s a common term. Still seems kinda silly to me. I’ve had severe sun burns (peeling/blistering) and I’ve never heard it called “poison”. Most people call that a 2nd degree burn. On the other hand, a lot of people don’t take sun burns seriously enough, so maybe calling it “poisoning” is justified. You also might be right about it being regional.

Yeah personally when I had it I either also got sick at the same time or it royally fucked up my whole body. Like bed ridden for 2 days and throwing up. Ruined half my vacation 😂 lesson learned though.

I was the same way, but people do seriously undermine the severity of sun damage. It caught me off track when I had severe sun damage, as I didn’t expect fever and being woken up by my skin burning and blending into the bed sheets in the middle of the night.

My father used to slather himself in olive oil when we went on vacation and he got a craz, dark tan and never burned. He never got to find out if it led to cancer but he lived into his 70s.

I was always very sceptical ofthis method and always use normal sunscreen.

    //edit

Oh and I think he used baby oil for the other thing. Also never went that route and got me some silicone based stuff specifically meant for the purpose.

Just an FYI for those who don’t know, baby oil (mineral oil) breaks down the latex in condoms. The material is up to 90% weaker with just 60 seconds of exposure. This applies to diaphragms as well, since they’re often made from latex.

It’s also hard to clean off, and can lead to skin irritation and yeast infections.

Interestingly enough, vegetable oils are actually a better choice than baby oil, but will still attack latex. They often cause less irritation and fewer yeast infections.

Water or silicone based lubes are still best.

He also advised me back then that I should not touch anything if I were to ever travel back in time. That advice I always took to heart.

I disagree very strongly with the recommendation for only water-based for sex. Oil is much preferable for having sex for a long time, since it doesn’t evaporate and dry out the way all water-based lubes do.

I personally use coconut oil and also silicone lube on occasion since it’s even more powerful and long-lasting.

Latex condoms do have that warning not to use them with oils, but polyisoprene condoms + coconut oil is a combination I’ve used for a long time and trust very much.
