There’s nothing legally preventing it, technically high ranking politicians are no different from anyone else and if they commit a crime in your jurisdiction you have just as much right as with anyone else to drag them out in handcuffs, book them, and throw them in a cell awaiting trial. Sure, but I really struggle to think that of the over 3000 sheriffs and however many mayors in this country none have tried. These are not all people with a rational way of calculating personal risk.
