Hello !
As Mint is based on Ubuntu, I’m wondering if it will follow the missteps (to me at least) Ubuntu is doing to demote *.deb packages in favor of snaps?
Well that based on Ubuntu 23.10’s New Software App Will Demote DEBs (Apparently) post, and its lemmy.ml discussion.
Thanks !
Edit: Responses indicate, at least so far, Mint is not following Ubuntu’s decisions regarding snap. Thanks to all who responded !
The Linux Mint team actually compiles Chromium themself for their distro editions, I suspect they will do this for Firefox too in the future (since Canonical only provide these as Snaps)
But compiling web browser takes a huge toll on hardware, so I recommend anyone donating if you wish for them to handle the server cost so the Linux Mint team can handle the slack of Canonical
Thanks a lot ! Hopefully it’ll remain the same. And if there are more news about it, particularly from Mint itself, please share, :)
