Apparently, it’s like Smash Bros in the Ubisoft universe, except it’s a first-person shooter.
So, you got different factions from Far Cry, Splinter Cell etc. with which you can play…

If nothing else, it is kind of fun that they’ve merged universes a bit.

In Watch Dogs Legion, DedSec is contacted by the Assassin Order who needs their help taking down Templars that are working with Albion - basically merging protagonists/villains of both series.

Ghost Recon has also previously guest starred Sam Fisher and operators from Siege.

AC in narrative meeded closure in modern times, where I hoped AC 3 or 4 would be. Cool that happened.

When I was 15 that would have been the coolest shit!

Not to say it’s not still cool, my capacity for joy and wonder at the novelty of crossovers has just faded over time is all.

It sounds a little novel if nothing else, I hope it picks up :-)

Man, all business/capitalism/personality-politics stuff aside, it must suck to be a developer, artist, writer, actor etc on something for years, pour your heart into it for a solid percentage chunk of your remaining lifespan on this Earth, and then have it fall flat.

Especially if it’s not so much the thing you made, but stuff outside of your control that’s holding it back. Lacklustre marketing for example - I hadn’t even heard of this.

Yeah, I had to figure out what it really is from Wikipedia and my two reactions were:

          • Ubisoft has a ‘universe’? Huh, I guess, they do have a few franchises there.
          • That actually sounds reasonably interesting. At least it’s not just yet another uninspired shooter.

And like, yeah, lacklustre marketing puts it quite well. I had heard of XDefiant before, but all I got from that was that it’s a shooter, which made me fall asleep immediately.
Had they sold it as “You ever wanted to pit the Splinter Cell guy against the Far Cry bandits?”, I would have at least remembered it.

But to be fair, a lot of games are currently coming out. It is difficult to be seen for pretty much all titles…

Ubisoft’s free version of COD. I tried it as a friend was raving about it, tbh it’s a fine game if somebody likes this style. The character’s from the Ubi universe are just a gimmick, most play the same

It’s also a problem that it’s exclusive to the Ubisoft launcher and isn’t on Steam…

I was going to play it, but poor linix compatibility with the ubisoft launcher killed that for me.

It was enough to make me too lazy to bother even when the hype was there. Now it seems even the community that plays/played it is negative on it so even less likely to bother with Ubisoft launcher for it than at launch. I have UPlay installed too, but I don’t even know if anyone in my friend list from Steam was playing it compared to other games that they are shown playing.

You are actually right. I tried this game as a friend liked it, and it basically does everything that COD does, but for free, so it’s not the worst way for somebody to spend their time online. Still, I imagine Ubi execs promised to dethrone every other shooter and have 100 million payers to milk for MTX.

Have they stopped using their launcher? The only way I will ever play an Ubisoft game is if they ditch that jank ass launcher.

The market is so saturated with these type of shooters — especially ones with generic army dudes.

    I’m not really surprised.

Not installing your shitty launcher and this game launched with several, basic issues that took too long to fix, they fumbled it so hard! Ubisoft is frustrating, just let your devs cook in peace.

Not even enticing people with “free premium currency” just for logging in could entice me to play an Ubisoft shooter.

Probably because it’s hot garbage and people can play call of duty instead.

70 bucks and still have all the freemium cancer, or just free with the freemium cancer?

Yeah, that’s the draw XDef has over CoD. It’s F2P and generally the content is earnable, outside of some cosmetics and additional currency. I think both “locked” factions can be bought through challenge completions, so not really P2W either, paying just unlocks it faster. And it’s not a bad shooter either imo, it’s just…the same as every other shooter. Very average.

I played this when it came out because some people were hyping it up. It’s solid and a fun game, but I didn’t feel it brought anything whatsoever to the table that other shooters hadn’t brought 15 years ago. It isn’t even the first free game to provide a similar experience. Not surprised it isn’t a huge hit.
