Moderators of r/Animemes recently banned the word "trap" from the subreddit, drawing backlash and losing almost 100,000 subscribers.

So I’m just now realizing why the word “trap” and animemes controversy was a controversy and I feel stupid for blindly siding with animemes.

When I first heard abut this controversy, in /r/animemes; I believed in the animemes community because I (somehow) thought their rights were being taken away.

Sometime later, I heard about the controversy through the /r/trans community; I found out that trap is a slur against (female-to-male) transsexuals. After that, I believed in the trans community side over the /r/animemes community.

I don’t really care about this controversy; I forgot it even happened; but I feel so gullible in general because all sides seem to make sense to me.

    It’s the other way around: it’s a slur against trans women specifically. Strongly recommend to watch this trouble episode if you have 30 minutes of time: it’s surprisingly dense and good and has some explanation of why transmisogyny in particular is so rampant and violent.

    I feel so gullible in general because all sides seem to make sense to me.

    That’s often the case with politics. There is no absolute right or wrong, and everything makes sense depending on your perspective/principles. That’s why we gotta pick a side: choose whatever framing sounds more important to us.
