Inside Out 2 was obviously going to do well but Horizon is Interesting - it’s cinema run wasn’t great (it didn’t make it’s budget back as it did poorly domestically and pitifully internationally) but they are ploughing on, currently filming Chapter 3, with 4 in the pipeline. So there must he a market for it and perhaps it is in home video.

It boggles my mind that DVD still dominates physical media in 2024. I can count on one hand the number of DVDs I’ve bought in the past 10+ years, vs hundreds of Blu-ray titles (and a handful of 4k).

There are many reasons why DVD still outsells Blu-ray and 4K UHD:

      • Unawareness of, or indifference to, DVDs’ subpar video/audio quality.
      • For most people, DVDs “just work”.
      • Studios and manufacturers did a poor job of educating the public about the different formats
      • Streaming/digital is too convenient for the public to consider physical media.
      • People are unable/unwilling to upgrade their tech.

All valid points. But it’s the streaming thing that gets me. I would have assumed that streaming captured the lions share of the casual market, leaving mostly enthusiasts left buying physical media. Clearly I was wrong lol.
