One thing that immensely frustrates me about this is we don’t get this reaction from Ubisoft where an account is required to play pretty much all their games. Nor Activision with Call of Duty.

It’s not great that Sony is doing this, but at the same time the horse has already left the barn and people are just jumping on the rage bandwagon.

I’m not saying don’t be mad at Sony, but can we get this outrage at the other companies too?

This is a single player game that wants me to log in. I won’t buy something like that, irrespective of what company it’s from.

Those are multiplayer games. Totally different.

But this implies same people are also buying those games. Which they might not even be into.

GTA, cod and ubisoft games are polarising.

But there’s a massive crowd who likes single player games. Especially ones that are meant to be good.

Not only do you need an account with those other publishers, but you often need an entirely separate launcher.

This Sony thing is simply creating an account.

This is all just console wars bullshit. It’s stupid when it was Nintendo vs. Sega. It’s stupid when it’s Sony vs. Microsoft. And it’s stupid when it’s PC vs Console.

Grow the fuck up, you emotionally-stunted fucking manchildren.

It’s not because “it could be worse” that it shouldn’t be better. There’s no good reason to force players to sign into a dedicated account to play a singleplayer game. It’s not because other publishers are worse that this isn’t a gaming sin. Pointing the finger to less green pastures only gives the current one a chance to match the landscape.

          Ok, cool.

Let’s revisit this when Rockstar gets universal adoration for GTA6, which will absolutely require a Rockstar account & launcher.

GTA6 will almost certainly be a multiplayer game. As others have pointed out, at least there’s a logic behind it for a multiplayer game. There is exactly zero reason, other than corporate bs, to have this in a single player game. That’s been the argument in this entire thread, so GTA6 possibly getting praise while also requiring a separate account is entirely irrelevant.

You really think GTA6 won’t have a single player component? And that it won’t require a Rockstar account/launcher?

Gta6 isn’t singleplayer only, do you really need it spelled out for you?

Multi-player games can use being a multi-player game as an excuse for “needing” a launcher.

An always offline, single player game, where no one will ever see or touch your progress, does NOT need a launcher, and realistically should and could be sold on GoG with no DRM.

The only way to change this pattern is by getting mad, and not buying games that add a launcher to a single player game. (Helldivers was different because they added it as a forced requirement months after release. Even though it had been proven it was not neccessary)

You see, there’s the thing. Sony is not requiring any sort of launcher. It’s an account.

                  “But mah privacy!”

Again, no launcher. What exactly are they going to track? That you’re playing their game?

Launcher, just an email, doesn’t matter. There is absolutely no reason to have it in the game, and I’m very happy we are starting the trend of saying “Fuck you, no.”

So that’s who that tool is that’s trying to convince me I need to hate another game every time I rot my brain on TikTok.

I don’t know how many times I’ve told that app I’m not interested in how much he hates Star Wars Outlaws.
