There was a time the GOP would have fought tooth and nail against the Soviet Union. Now that it’s called Russia, it funnels money to the GOP. They act as useful idiots to the Soviet Union 2.0.

And I can’t figure out how people still support them. US citizens have a high tolerance for idiots.

I blame Ronald Reagan. People think when he implored Gorbachev to “tear down that wall” that the US had penetrated the Soviet Union. We didn’t it fell apart and oligarchs seized power like warlords do. Now we have an autocratic regime that vehemently and violently crushes diversions to its goal of unlimited power. The same goal that the Republicans have.

Because followers of a cult are more concerned with harming others, even if it happens themselves slightly less.

They can’t see past their own noses. They don’t want any government spending on things that don’t directly affect them in a beneficial way.

You know, there’s a difference between modern Russia and soviet Russia, soviet Russia posed an actual ideological threat to America whereas modern Russia is just kinda irritating and is threatening to hurt our economic dominance. There’s a reason that Russia is a partisan squabble now and back then it was pitched as a nonpartisan fight of good versus evil.

arguably the modern russia is worse. destabilizing our politics and our economy is worse than any proxy war we’ve been in. Putin is the dictator the US was worried about for a long time but for some reason the conservatives want to kow tow to him.

Putin is the direct result of US meddling in the USSR. He is the heir to Yeltsin, the CIAs guy in the USSR that forcefully brought it down agains the will of the USSR state apparatus and the people.

Putin was even super cosy to many western political figures, like the Clintons. He was seen as the good guy, privatising everything and allowing western companies to exploit Russian resources.

Russia even tried joining NATO multiple times, with good support from many western politicians.

That changed somewhere during the mid to late 2000s.

Now Russia and Putin are evil and want to destroy the US.

Dare I say this is all fucking theatrics? Not that Putin is still secretly friends with all his old western buddies. But he and Russia were just used as pawns at first, to help bring down the USSR and it’s remnants, and then as a boogeymen by the “west”. Like he was played hard. Not that he has much to complaint about, as he is a fucking billionaire.

And also a lesson. Never trust the US… Like Saddam thinking he was buddies with GWB and sending him letters after 9/11 saying “hey man we got this we’re gonna find the terrorists together!” then getting no response and getting invaded lmao

“My amendment is going to lose overwhelmingly when it is put up for a vote,” said Gaetz. “But the American people will see who wants to represent them, and who wants to represent Crimea.”

Thanks Matt, now we know who the Russian assets are in the House.

Economic systems exist beyond socialism and capitalism. The GQP want a dictatorship. Bend the knee or we’ll use state power to punish you. If it was as simple as capitalism, Disney would still have their weird pseudo-government thing.

That’s true that there are more systems, but I think most Republican politicians are just capitalists despite everyone playing the Christofascist game that was unlocked recently because Trump proved it wins votes. If they could win elections to be in power to steal more money just by being Bush neocons, then I think they’d do that.

There are a few true believers, just like with Christianity itself (albeit a distorted version), among Republicans but I really think they aren’t so ideological at core. They have a price, and Putin paid it.

Russia is the largest country on the planet, with boundless natural resources. All they need to do is learn how to keep their armies within those massive borders, and they would be everyone’s favorite trading partner. Instead, they do … this. They don’t need to die. They just need to go home.

Russian soldiers murdering people in another people’s land should go home is they don’t want to die.
