Some parts of south Asia actually do use a six season model. You’ve got the four you’re familiar with plus monsoon season between summer and autumn and one other one either at the start or end of winter depending on the specific system

I tend to associate stardew valley with winter. I like the decorations the most and the music is very nice. Reminds you of all the work during the other seasons and let’s you breath in and plan for next year.

That’s exactly what I meant! Not only “fitting in-game”. Nice list.

Eh, the only “seasons” I play special games for are Halloween (something spooky) and Christmas:

    • Halloween - last year it was Darkside Detective and Return of the Obra Dinn - usually something spooky, but not into horror itself
    • Christmas - last year it was Arida: Backland’s Awakening and Opus Magnum; usually puzzles and heavier stories

    This year, it’ll probably be:

    • Halloween - finally finish Metro 2033 series
    • Christmas - probably some long game I’ve been sitting on, like The Witcher series or RDR II

Other than that, I don’t really games based on the season, but based on time I have available and whatever interests me.

It’s very good if you like city builders with RTS elements. There’s no combat in it at all, it’s just you and your villagers against the storm, hence the title. It has a lot of challenge missions and an overall story so the replayability is quite good.

Oh wow, I thought there was combat.

What are the RTS elements if not combat? Is it more “macro” level stuff like resource collection/ building/ tech?

I’ll definitely pick it up if that’s more what it’s about. I love RTS formats, but going back to starcraft style micro is way too much for me nowadays.

I dig city builders regardless though, and the roguelike aspect seems neat.

I wouldn’t really call Against the Storm an RTS. It’s worker placement game and a short-session city builder. You place down buildings, and assign your people to do specific things. You get modifiers, new buildings, and events as the run goes on. You have to produce specific resources to earn points to win the run. Events work where you have to assign people+resources to it before the generous timer runs out, or you get debuffs. You can plan and do things while time is paused.

Very fun and strategic, but more in a puzzley sense, not an RTS way. DotAge is another game - very similar, but turn based.

Honestly sounds awesome. I’ve found that I love top down city builders (shout out to timberborn) and I really like the theme and setting of Against the storm. Love me some grim vibes in games. Thanks for the info!

I guess it’s not so much RTS. It’s like making hard decisions. It’s a lot like Frostpunk in that way if you’ve played that game. There’s an element of danger and your villagers can easily die, and sometimes you have to make hard decisions or sacrifices.

Hell yeah, sounds great. I haven’t played frostpunk (also on my wishlist), but I can’t really go wrong with city builders, and I love the theme. I appreciate the info!

Autumn is always Diablo-season in my family. We’ll play a modded Diablo 1 or 2 together. It’s tradition!
