Privacy experts point out that Meta has put the launch of Threads in the European Union on hold because it’s unclear whether the way the company handles user data and shares it across different platforms, including Threads, will run afoul of impending privacy regulations.
The internet at large pretty much self-selected years ago into a camp of people who won’t touch anything Meta makes and another that finds zero privacy and inciting genocide to be a fair trade for “all” this “outstanding” “free” “content.”
Who’s the intended audience for this story?
Not sure about “intended”, but as a curious cat from the EU, this story let me know that I can’t even try it out yet, even if I wanted.
I noticed that too while reading the article. I’m curious if part of the play for federation is to allow them to have access to better regulated markets and users without having to make changes on their side. If I can read content from Threads but my home instance is EU-based, they wouldn’t necessarily need to comply with any EU laws since I’m not signed up on their instance directly.
