Apartheid in South Africa didn’t end until student activists finally shamed the Regents of the University of California into divesting from that regime. The rest of the world followed. Israel has a much more aggressive political lobby, so it’s much harder to talk about social justice there without the reflexive Israeli smears of anti-antisemitism. Never mind that Palestinians are a semitic people, too.
