as someone who doesn’t really know shit about drugs, what exactly is going on with this guy 9 grams of mushrooms deep? why does he think none of the people he’s announcing himself to are actually there? is he even seeing anything remotely like what we’re seeing?
I mean who knows what he’s literally seeing but even on a lower dose of many psychedelic you can dissociate in a way that just makes everything seem… Fake. At least superficial things. Like there’s no inherent truth or anchor in reality. There’s not much reason besides what you can make to do A over B.
What does he mean nobody’s there? I don’t know I’ve never done 9g but I bet he’s feeling basically that no individual is actually individual. No one is just a monad. Nobody is there.
Plus I’m sure the sky is breathing and the ground is bubbling
I only watched a few seconds but I assume he is talking about something along the lines of the buddhist concept of “no-self.” The belief is that one is not composed of any permanent essence - what we identify as “self” is only a passing phenomena whose temporary nature is the effect of some other cause. Because what we are is not permanent and also not its own thing (because of its dependent origination on other phenomena), it is not even possible to precisely identify the self - such a thing doesn’t exist. It is a conceptualization which blinds us to the true nature of reality, which is that of infinitely interconnected phenomena - or, conversely, a single infinite phenomenon (the distinction itself probably being considered a misleading conceptualization).
I’ll cut the lecture there, but obviously there is more to the concept and its importance to buddhism in the context of other concepts. It didn’t seem like the guy was really intent on educating anyone anyway.
