Obama won two terms as president and Hillary won the popular vote lol. She didn’t do well in the 2020 primary. Now of course this isn’t exactly the same situation as back then, but I don’t see her as a strong enough candidate to safely beat Trump. Winning the popular vote isn’t enough, as you yourself said.
