Hi, I’ve been using Instander for some time, but even the early beta is outdated by now, and doesn’t work correctly. Does anyone have any recommendations on good Instagram mods? I know about AeroInsta, Honista, MyInsta and few others, but not sure which are safe.

PS: please tell me if this isn’t the right community for this question, I’m not sure but it seems like the best one PPS: I know precisely how bad instagram is, and I still want/need to use it, so please don’t waste your time telling me that.

revanced manager has 12 patches for it, the ad blocking ones work at least. although I’m also running an ad block DNS, but I haven’t tried any of the other features because the ad block is the only recommended one.

Aeroinsta I couldn’t get installed, their website forces me to turn off my adblocker but I think it picked up Firefox’s tracker blocking

Honista I couldn’t log in, it forced me to turn off my VPN ad blocking (DuckDuckGo blocking trackers)

I wouldn’t trust either with the ad-free experience

MyInsta is simply just the Instagram site on mobile. I do get Instagram’s first party ads, still

If memory serves me well, Barinsta used to be good, now I can’t get it to log in, anymore

MyInsta is not just the website. It’s a mod just like the others. https://myinsta.app The developer claims to not obfuscate his additional code, which seems nice, but I didn’t check that.

I never checked the website’s functionality, but the app just serves me something that looks 1:1 like Insta’s mobile site, plus Instagram’s first party ads. I got the impression it was just an Electron browser with adblock pre-installed

That’s really weird. I included the link just in case we were talking about different mods both named MyInsta. For me, MyInsta is a normal mod of Instgram’s android app, very similar to Instander or Aeroinsta (and probably others, I haven’t tried them)

Any specific issue you have with Instander? It’s working perfectly fine for me. Only if people post to their story it takes a few minutes to show.

The latest version is so old I got a prompt to update every time I opened the app.

I haven’t used it in a while but Aeroinsta was good and probably safe (despite their shady website). Gets rid of unnecessary stuff like ads and allows downloading.

I use myinsta. It’s great for removing ads, etc. But there are some minor glitches (eg. repeatedly asking for contacts/location permissions) and it seems to take up more storage.

I don’t care about those dumb reels so tiktok is not an instagram alternative for me anyways. Also I would never install that thing on my device. There aren’t many apps worse than Instagram for privacy, but TikTok is definitely one of them.

I don’t think any of these are good. I currently have to use instagram, because all my friends use it for chats and chat groups etc. I don’t use instagram for reels, so TikTok is not an alternative for me. And from what I have read about the TikTok app, it spies on you even more than instagram. Also the modded instgram versions usually have an option to block some of Meta’s analytics, and that’s one of the reasons I want to use them.

Fair enough. As for leaving Instagram, I can assure you I would love to. But I unfortunately, I have to choose between privacy and social life. And will rather be spied on than miss out camping with my classmates just because I wasn’t in the Insta chat group where they discussed it. And you might have guessed from me being a Lemmy user that I’m not the popular guy, so nobody will stop using Instagram because of me or text me everything they plan on there on Signal. Also if you think using TikTok is somehow fucking up Meta, I can tell you that you’re the only one getting fucked.

Right now I’m using InstaPro. It’s receiving frequent updates and as for now, I don’t have any major complaints about it.

If you want to download it, its official website is instamod.net. Watch out for fake links you may find on Google.
