I like all sorts of games but I get why some people stick to one type alone they feel comfortable with. I think I might have ADHD or something as I often bounce from genre to genre every couple of days, whatever I find interesting. Like one week I could be into tactical fps games, then the next week it’s JRPGs.
How about you hexbearians?
In theory, I’m open to most games except for Souls games, rhythm games, and realistic racing sims. In practice, I prefer to spend most of my game time playing various strategy games such as 4X, grand strategy, and RTS. For example Total War, Civilization, Stellaris , Crusader Kings, and many more.
I also have a soft spot for narrative-based games and visual novels, like Life is Strange and the Telltale games. When everything is said and done, though, strategy games are king for me.
I used to play whatever I could get my hands on as a kid, including genres I’d never bother with as an adult, like RTS games
I was much the same way growing up, plus my cousin and friends were the same too, we played a variety of genres that’s how I got so much exposure.
I have Autism/Asperger’s Syndrome. You would be amazed how much I love consistency. I always get shy about trying a new game… but will be happy playing the same game 10 times in a row.

I like all kinds of games, but the games I like most are the ones that make me think. Whether that’s an RPG, a tactics game, a shooter with a unique plot and themes, an indie puzzle game, or any other kind of game. Heck, I even like sports games.
The only games I will absolutely never play are military FPS games. CoD, Battlefield, Spec Ops, I don’t care what the series is, if it’s a war shooter and it doesn’t center around killing Nazis, I’m out.

Yeah I’m mostly the same way but I make exceptions for the original rainbow six games and battlefield 1942 + 2, some of my favorite shooters of all time.
Basically I spend 90% of my gaming time playing whatever the current fighting game I’m grinding is (currently sf6)…and then occasionally I will play other non fighting games. Never been into RTS or racing games… but other than that the games are pretty diverse.

I cycle, but I tend to stick with FPS, RPG, and Platformers mostly.
When I was young I was really into platformers.
I switch it up a lot but there are things I tend towards. Souls-likes, immersive sims, and city builders are definitely the ones I play the most of. JRPGs and 2D platformers are the main ones I tend to avoid
I have a preference for platformers generally but i’ll try anything.i think im most likely to avoid turn based rpgs
I sort of bounce around but I do have my favorite genres, like first person puzzle platformer, metroidvania, etc. I tried sticking to a certain genre with JRPG a while back but got burned out from that genre even though it was one of my favorite genres as a kid. Right now I just try to stick to a small backlog, work through whatever those games may be and then move on. So like I just got done with Axiom Verge 1 and 2 but am now playing CrossCode and Mad Max just because they sounded fun. I was playing Prey but bounced off of it because it was frustrating me. I am playing Balatro in short bursts but plan on hitting Supraland for a second playthrough once I am done with CrossCode and Mad Max. After that idk yet. Maybe Xenoblade trilogy?
I liked Mad Max, usually I avoid movie tie in games but that one was pretty good.
So I bought the game years ago when Feral did the Linux port to support the company, played it a bit but got burned out form the base-taking gameplay loop. Sort of the hallmark of open world games of that era I guess.
But I’ve been on a huge Mad Max lore dive lately and even though the game only barrows the aesthetics, I figured while I am binging the old trilogy and the Fury Road/Furiosa/and soon Wasteland trilogy, I might give it another go. This time around I am accepting it as the grindy base-taking game that it is and just gonna have dumb fun with it. I just wish they would have stuck a bit closer to the lore. The game would have fit in, had they had just called Rictus, Rictus instead of fucking it up and calling him Scrotus. Had they done that, I feel like it could sort of fit right after Fury Road for the most part. I guess Miller said fuck it and dipped because the devs wanted to go their own way. I’m gonna just try and continue with my head canon that ties all the movies together as they are tall tales being told by the now older lost kid tribe at the end of Thunderdome and the facts aren’t always correct lol.
Pretty diverse in terms of gameplay, it’s easier to list what I avoid; RTS, MOBAs / hero shooters and survival crafting. Genre / theme wise I don’t really enjoy medieval style fantasy games. I’m open to at least trying anything else. Not that I have strong “x type of game is bad” type opinions (except predatory mtx games) it’s just not my jam.
used to try all kinds of old PC games, nowadays I usually stick to RPG, adventure, puzzle, visual novel, and telltale style, but really most of my game time in the last 2-3 years went into the solo questing and dungeon content in elder scrolls online, guess you can say that’s my slop, an endless chain of quests with varying levels of writing
i play anything that has a good story so by count yeah it’s pretty diverse, by playtime though my life is consumed by map games. right now im playing victoria 3 and since my cpu is quite weak the time dilation during the campaign is insane (i think it takes around 10 hours between 1880 and 1890). needless to say i always miss out on the late game fun. i also play vanilla almost exclusively because steam has gotten really good at protecting its workshop downloadables, but also im fine with vanilla.
if i had to choose two genres i prefer though it would be strategy and point and clicks.

i do play a lot of roguelikes because i like the randomness and the replayability but i also play a lot of arcade shmups, puzzle games, and rpgs. ive been playing dark souls for the first time which has been fun :::3

For a bit I was obsessed with angband but I got kind of upset that I kept hitting a wall midgame and I couldn’t clear it. Granted that’s a proper old school RL where the difficulty (permadeath) is the point.

i was also playing angband before! good game, pretty fucking long as roguelikes go. i havent made it that far in, i like roguelikes like dcss and cogmind instead, a bit more faster pace. still very much enjoy angbands curse and rune systems, it adds a nice zest of randomness
I mostly stick to build games, survival crafting, and rpgs. I generally have very little interest in shooters and soulslikes and the rest of the AAA style games.
