I just found out there’s an ATV Buggy fun course not too far from my home.

You drive over jumps, through tunnels, water obstacles, over cars and lots more!

    …I’m gonna die spectacularly

Oof, that was not a good sleep… Had to sleep with headphones listening to YouTube because my mind just wouldn’t turn off and I was so paranoid and anxious. Everytime I turned over I was like “but now my back is to the door, what if somebody comes in”, and same goes for laying the other way and having my back to the window. Spent 2 hours trying to fall asleep, then woke up every 40 minutes or so in a sweat and had to get up and check that my door and window were both still locked

The worker who was here overnight gave me good vibes. Big Islander dude, seemed chill. No worries about my safety (logically, anyway). That’s probably why I got my 3 hours of sleep at all

Edit: after a shower, I’m feeling a bit less nervous. Just trying to distract myself with my usual routine. I also decided that not listening to anything so I can keep an ear out for any strange noises is a bad idea when this house is like 100 years old and makes even more noise than usual during winter, so I have some music on

It probably would, but I’m not sure it’s worth the effort. As I discovered yesterday, this lock holds up surprisingly well to break in attempts (deadbolt) and kick attempts. The only way in is either a key (which is kept at the office and the workers don’t have access to), or a solid hip and shoulder in which case I probably have bigger problems

During lockdowns I found a website 1001 Albums to listen to before you die.

I try to do an album a day during the week, but sometimes cannot be bothered.

It’s definitely broadened by musical horizons, but has also introduced me to some absolutely crap (yes I know music is subjective) that is somehow popular.

    Definitely suggest it to everyone.

I think that’s about the time the server used to restart (is that still a thing?), and also runs maintenance tasks or something. Always slow for me around then

I’m starting to feel more safe now. Still not 100, not even 30% honestly, but each day that passes, I feel 1 or 2% safer. I’m still jumping at noises, still lock my room when I go to the bathroom, and have a just I’m case knife on my bedside table.

I finally wrote an email to my care team informing them of the situation, they’ll probably start checking in more frequently, and will also put pressure on the org to replace my stolen and damaged stuff. The police assistance line said I should call the station handling the case tomorrow if they don’t contact me first, but tomorrow’s a busy day so I might give them a bonus 24 hours. My spare room is still a “crime scene” though, so I can’t work on cleaning it up, or go tinker with my projects.

In a kind of dark and twisted way, it’s also ironic that they moved him in here to cut costs (Resi is expensive), and in the end it’s probably coated them the same if not more. I’d say he’s caused about 1-2k in property damage to them alone, plus about 1.5k to me (plus another 1.5k in theft). They also had to have 24/7 staffing while he was alone, and even now since I still don’t feel safe, they’re still paying for an overnight worker. Really the only thing they really “saved” was not having to buy groceries for him, but it seems like he was bad with managing money, so they probably had to anyway. Seems like the cost cutting really worked for them 🙄🙄

Oh, also, I think I have permanent, irrevocable “I told you so” rights now…

That feeling of safety should hopefully return soon back to 100%.

Such a fucked situation that no doubt people in these agencies should have prepared for.

Don’t let them get away with not replacing your stuff. That’s the least they can do.

I already had a fairly low opinion of the department of human services. And yet they still continue to fuck up.

That’s why they rebrand every 2 years, silly! Since 2013 I think it’s gone DHHS > DHS & DoH > DHHS > DFFH & DoH. They split and merge the department of health and the department of human services more often than Melbourne rebrands public transport agencies and operators. For now, it’s the department of families, fairness, and housing, until they want to merge the department of health in again

I can get to it quicker than anyone else could. Nobody would get through the door without me hearing (their best option would be giving the door a good shoulder until either the door frame collapses, or the hinges snap.

Don’t know how they’d get in. You could probably pick the lock, but I don’t think he knows how to do that. Can’t shimmy the lock because it’s a deadbolt. Can’t get through the window because it’s locked (it’s one of those old school locks you have to turn to lock/unlock), can’t unlock it from outside. As far as I can tell that just leaves the option of breaking the window, or applying enough force to the door that the hinges or door frame break off. Both of those things make noise

Fucking hell I need to get better security on all of my stuff.

I realised that the drongo also nicked an Xbox I had in my spare room. I haven’t played it in some time, but apparently at some stage it’s become disconnected from my Microsoft account so I can’t report it stolen or get the serial number. My MacBook I’d just reset like a month ago and forgot to turn on find my device. And I got an email from Amazon that somebody was trying to reset my password. I rejected the request but realised I forgot to sign out of prime on a hotel tv, so I reset my password. Which deregistered my echo dot from my Amazon account, so I can’t get the serial number.

I thought I was good at keeping my devices secure and locked down. Evidently I am not anywhere near as good as I thought. I guess I’ve felt too safe for too long to keep up with maintenance and security. I suppose it’s a learning opportunity but I just feel like an idiot. Ugh

      it happens

I change computers and lose passwords to email accounts, then what ever is attached to that email is basically fucked

at least i don’t have anything on my phone and I use bluetooth as little as possible and never ever use public wifi

echo and that stuff, not in a million years

even so, I do have various shopping accounts

My phone is probably the safest thing I own honestly. Strong password I change often, and googles rolled out their find my iphone knockoff that uses all the bluetooth and wifi stuff to ping its location back to base if GPS isn’t working. Apparently it doesn’t work very well yet, but I have faith it’ll improve. Or google will get a new toy and scrap it. really 50/50 odds tbh

Today’s “you must’ve had a shit day mate” award runner up prize goes to the young bloke in hi viz who exited his car as it was at a 30 degree incline on the back of a tow truck and had to climb down.

The winner goes to whoever is gonna be held responsible for the Derrimut factory fire.

On a brighter note, some really lovely news, I received a surprisingly chunky bonus from one of my jobs (despite not being there that long). I have the option of salary sacrificing it or having it paid out as taxed wages. I would’ve liked to put it all to super but frankly I could do with liquid cash atm. Buys me more time later in the year for when I can’t work as hard.

Now to whip up some hearty green curry. So good for throwing all the veg in!!

So friends of mine have dogs and I must say the dog smell in their house today was pretty bad. I’m assuming the house being closed up in winter probably doesn’t help.

Was relieved to get back to my own fresh smelling house.

I can understand why people want their dogs indoors…but…you are up for a lot of cleaning and dog bathing if you want your house to smell relatively fresh.

And I think dog owners after a while don’t notice the smell.
