I’m planning in mailing my macbook into apple, the issue is they couldn’t tell me exactly if it was going to be a level 2 or level 3 repair? If its a level 3 I honestly don’t want to pay it but at a level 2 I would be fine to pay it.

You can definitely refuse and ask for them to send it back to you if you don’t want them to do the repair.
Do they charge you a fee just for looking at it, or sending it back?
No, at least, not in the USA.
so if they quoted me at level 3 repair I would be pretty much stuck with paying 300 dollars
I believe they were answering “No”, you are not charged a fee just for them to evaluate it and offer a repair price.
Which is true. Apple does not charge any fee for evaluation of a repair. If you bring/send your device to an Apple Authorized Service Provider, however, they are free to charge what they’d like for this.
… if you accept the quote, then yes, you’d pay $300. Otherwise, you can reject it and take home the un-repaired device.
I don’t believe so. This may vary by country, though. I’ve brought and mailed mine in before. When they told me the price I just said no thank you and took my laptop back, no charge. Canada btw
