I been trying to subscribe to communities. I know how to find them by searching !community@server.xyz or whatever. Some of them have a subscribe button. I found a bunch that don’t, and I am not sure if this is a bug, if I need to do something special to subscribe like message the admins, or if it’s overloaded and the subscribe button isn’t working. I basically see a Subscribe word in the top right corner (using web lemmy) and I don’t see a button to subscribe. Seeing this in multiple communities:
I know the movies one is on a different server, but I’m logged in and I seem to be in the right place to subscribe, but can’t. I believe aww is on my server so it doesn’t show the full community !thing@server. In this community, I see a subscribe button:
There is a bug in 0.18.0 with subscribe button going to text and no longer a button 0.18.1 is improving that. https://github.com/LemmyNet/lemmy/issues/3384

Ye I noticed the pending subscription thing even though I am seeing posts from that community in my feed.
Does this second issue mean I just have to wait until Lemmy is updated to be able to subscribe to those communities? And is it the instance I’m registered on that needs to update or the others? And how do I check what the newest Lemmy is and whether an instance is updated?
look on the home page, bottom right, does it show it as one of your subscribed communities?
No, I don’t see movies@lemmy.world or !aww in my subscribed communities.
what a mess. You might try another client, such as a smartphone client - I expect they will put 0.18.1 on lemmy.ml soon
