I really enjoyed this. The style is very much “del toro” and the stop motion animations were excellent. One of the best stop motion animated movies I’ve seen.
What are your thoughts on this movie if you’ve seen it?
What is your favorite stop motion animated movie?
I thought it was well-made and a very sweet story about fathers and sons.
The historical setting was interesting, but I don’t think it added enough to the story to justify how big a part the WW2 parts played. You have a story about someone who wants to be a real person, and it’s set in a time where people are being murdered en-masse because they’re not “real people”. However, the fascism subplot just ends when the kid can’t make his militaristic father happy.
That’s my only real complaint though. The animation was gorgeous.
You have a very good point about the setting. Now that you mention it it seemed as if the fascist state thing only affected the story when it was convenient rather than it being this overarching thing throughout the story. However I wouldnt say if affected my enjoyment of the movie.
Isle of Dogs is very good too.
Man I started watching this movie high af and I did not enjoy it. Was very weirded out. Need to give it another watch soon, though.
I loved this movie. It maintains the essence of the Pinocchio story, but adds some new elements to build a new, more complex story and, therefore, a new movie.
As for stop motion movies, I’m not sure it’s my favorite, but one that I loved is “Nightmare Before Christmas.”
Ah yes. Nightmare before Christmas is one of my favorites. Coraline is up there too
I haven’t seen Coraline. It’s on my watchlist long time ago.
James and The Giant Peach was a favorite of mine when I was younger. I haven’t seen it in a long time. I forgot that Del Toro did Pinocchio. I plan on watching it soon!
I loved the historical context, but it also felt as if it was a bunch of separate movies. The whole military camp thing had me feeling a bit confused.
But other than that, I felt very satisfied and glad that the movie got made that way!
