According to my childhood church, God allowed sin into the world and made hell just so they could get some premium worship. Only the best slaves for the almighty.

So glad I fucked off when I turned 18.

the teachings of christianity are fucking great - don’t hoard wealth, don’t judge your neighbours and love them, give money and food to the poor, etc. jesus was unironically a socialist

problem is that most christians don’t actually follow those teachings

You will eat, bye and bye

In that glorious land above the sky

Work and pray, live on hay

You’ll get pie in the sky when you die

Long-haired preachers come out every night

Try to tell you what’s wrong and what’s right

But when asked how 'bout something to eat

They will answer in voices so sweet

You will eat, bye and bye

In that glorious land above the sky

Work and pray, live on hay

You’ll get pie in the sky when you die

In defense of people who believed this, they were thousands of years away from anything being better on earth.

Like imagine living through the decline of a brutal slave empire, which took centuries to fully collapse, and the thing that replaced it was fucking internecine Feudal warfare for another millennia.

Unironically, whether you can stomach all the atrocities that happened afterwards or not, until the rise of Islam and its golden age, you would be pretty justified in thinking the world was never going to be better than it was in an age when most people were still utterly miserable.

Probably but if you live in a bible belt might be best chance to get others to inch towards things like mutual aid. Just pick and chose the parts you like to back up various theory. Obviously richer Christians might be a lost cause but poorer ones are struggling. If you don’t feel safe around religious types I wouldn’t urge you to do it though.
