Execution is not punishment, because the convicted person’s human experience ends.
Execution is not rehabiliatory, for the same obvious reason.
Execution is not preventative of the same person reoffending any more than imprisonment is.
Execution is not preventative of other people committing the same offense, because the act of execution is removed so completely in time and space from the crime and conviction. And it has to be so removed because of how completely wrong the justice system is kind of all the time.
Execution serves one purpose, and that is vengeance. The State should not be in the business of delivering vengeance to certain people.
Execution also doesn’t reduce offense rates because the severity of punishment doesn’t factor into decision making above “life ruining if convicted” it’s the certainty of being caught that reduces rates. The uk used to hang pickpockets in the town square and you’d get your pockets picked if you stood there watching.
This just tells me, watching people die induces criminal behavior.
Execution is to keep the person away from the rest of everyone else permanently. Your straw man reasons are hilarious tho.
Life imprisonment does exactly the same thing, is cheaper, and doesn’t run the risk of potentially killing an innocent person
Execution is not preventative of the same person reoffending any more than imprisonment is.
You may have missed that part.
To date, 21 people have been exonerated off death row by DNA evidence. The acceptable number of innocent people executed is 0.
We didn’t execute the prisoners on Guantanamo, supposedly the most dangerous terrorists in the world.
But we have to execute domestic criminals?
I wonder if this would actually deter would-be rapists or incentivize them to simply murder the child so they can’t talk. This seems incredibly reckless without data to support killing these criminals actually reduces child rapes.
Also, I think they might be surprised when these highly conservative legislative bodies execute their hometown pastors instead of drag queens.

Oooooh….
Ooh 😞
It’s ok it’s only really been used like this before in a foreign country like 90 years ago…
I get the sentiment, but this is a pretty strawman argument.
Is it?
There’s no evidence that capital punishment deters murder, so I’m not sure why it would deter rape.
I imagine there’s still a fair amount of theft in Saudi Arabia despite their cutting the hands off of thieves.
Justice systems where punishments can be meted out that are purely punitive are not especially just.
That assumes the it’s intended to be punishment. I would argue the goal of the laws, stated or not, is vengeance.
ETA: I’m not disagreeing with your statement. Just offering a modified viewpoint.
I sure hope no one gets really accused.
