It’s me. I’ve never engaged with Love Live at all, and was unaware that this show was affiliated. I saw a new show on CR, so I gave it a shot. I really enjoyed it thinking it was a standalone show. I’m not normally one for idol shows, so knowing now that it’s part of a huge franchise, I wonder if things will stay small/localized. Definitely saw enough to keep watching though.
Oh don’t worry, as far as I know this will be limited to only one part of the franchise, so as long as you can handle 9 main characters you will be fine. There might be some references to other generations, though you might not even notice them. Glad that you enjoyed it, means I can recommend it to my friends who are not into LL.
