When we were kids I was playing on my older sibling’s copy of leaf green exploring the lost cave on the sevii isles and ran into a “funny bird hat” pokemon and accidentally K.O-ed it before I could catch it, with no luck in finding another one. Later through the anime I learned the pokemon was Murkrow and afterwards I looked online and found out Murkrow dose spawn in the lost cave but only in fire red. I have not seen anything similar happening online. Dose anyone know how or why this happened? Did our game forgot which version is was for that one encounter?

The only things I can think of are

    • You are misremembering something. Maybe it was a different Pokémon you saw, or you battled someone with it (although I looked and didn’t see any trainer in Leaf Green with a Murkrow…) Or you played someone’s Fire Red and conflated the two.
    • Non-genuine cart with a hacked ROM has exclusives from Fire Red added.
    • An unknown/undocumented glitch caused you to encounter it.

The latter two seem unlikely and the first one seems most plausible to me. I don’t mean any offense and I’m not trying to call you out. Just feels like the most likely explanation.

The games don’t forget which version they are so that can’t be it. It’s not a single ROM that gets marked as red or green, each game is compiled and built to be what it is on the cart.

Other than that I really can’t think of what it could be. I agree, searching around online I haven’t found anyone or any glitches to explain that happening. Weird!

The cart is genuine I was at toys r us when we bought it. While I’m not gonna discount the possibility of miss remembering it’s just unlikely it was shocking it kinda became a core memory. We were stuck trying to navigate the lost cave because we were dum children, and it stood out being a newish pokemon encounter. I figured it was just a low spawn rate. Idk my friend in cs likes to tell me “if a glitch can’t be replicated it was probably a cosmic particle”
