If a moderator disappears and the community remains “uncovered” can an admin somehow change the sidebar and community title?

The only workaround I have found is to create a dummy user, make him a moderator, and then from that user make the changes. It seems a bit of a silly spin though, I think an admin should be able to do this without workarounds.

Same, that’s all I’ve seen too. I get the worries about admins stepping in, but frankly I see that happening a lot less than a mod not knowing how to do something or ghosting.

I know that admins (and mods for that matter) intentionally can’t edit posts without directly going at the database and probably messing up federation along the way, but haven’t checked communities. Or Lemmy devs’ stance on admins editing communities should someone try to implement this.

In the wake of the recent events at Reddit… What can an admin do? How powerful/limited is an admin? I know that you can switch instance and all that, but when an instance is getting big, it might eventually become powerful as well… hence the question.

The admin on an instance can change whatever on the instance.

The admins are the moderators on their instance now, managing federation and interaction with outside users.
