Adam was a created being with the potential for death but there was no death in the Garden of Eden so it was of no consequence. There were animals in Eden but they didn’t attack each other, lived in peace etc Meat was not eaten in Eden which is why the Orthodox Lenten fast is essentially vegan.
Didn’t know what good and evil was and thus wouldn’t know that disobeying god was a bad thing.
They knew to obey God. Only when Satan appeared as a snake to tempt them did they eat from the tree.
And also strange that god lied here, seeing as they ate the fruit and didn’t die (yeah yeah “spiritual death”, why wouldn’t god just say that if that’s what he meant)
God didn’t lie. When they ate the fruit their potential for death was actualized because God expelled them from the Garden. He clothed them with the skins of animals to indicate that death would now be part of their life as well as pain of child birth and the burden of laboring to survive. Animals became aggressive and could also be eaten for sustenance. The life of toil outside the Kingdom of God.
