Is there currently any way to create feeds like multireddits out of particular subscriptions? I’m missing my news/world news/politics multi!

Since I got to Jerboa, I’m surprised to learn how many people used multireddits. That functionality always seemed perfunctory. I always used different accounts for different types of content.

I also used RES, so switching accounts was seamless. Maybe it’s more hassle without RES.

Speaking of RES, I’ll digress here and gripe about Reddit. That software makes the site much more usable, but rather than adopt and integrate its features, Reddit just made no changes

Instead, they started implementing features that nobody was asking for, culminating with the site re-design.

Without old.reddit, I would probably have left years ago

I never used them with Reddit, but because there are so many small, new communities here that get little posts - you really have to combine them to get any meaningful amount of posts for one subject.

I didn’t have a ton of different multireddits, but they were definitely handy. I would use them to group together different subs that all related to a particular hobby or pursuit. Like all the different skateboard subs or programming subs, etc.

combined with the fact that there will likely be multiple same communities in different instances, this is absolute must - not just for the phone app, but for the desktop ui as well…

This has been requested several dozen times across several dozen communities plus in the official github tracker. The developers are aware, but it’s not a priority for now. Server stability and on-time federalization (syncing) is he focus, for now.

You mean like federating communities from federated instances by default? That would be awsome bceause it’s annoying AF how things are “federated” but actually most of content is not.

Oh, I figured that new features aren’t exactly a priority atm. Just making sure it was out there in the ether.

it would be neat if you could not only group communities together, but also post to that “multireddit” and have the post appear on every community included in it. that way you can have a grouping of all the tech coms for example and not have to repost to each one manually.

Maybe an upper limit, global or per instance, would help against that, and/or an opt out option for communities/instances?

I’m sorry but that’s a horrible idea. What if I didn’t group any of those communities into a multilemmy. So now I have to look at the same exact post multiples times? That’s super cross-posting, which is in of itself just “legal” reposting to begin with.

I think this defeats the entire point of having separate instances. We need to start thinking of each instance’s community as a separate space, not duplicates or mirrors of each other.

This. We really need some way to group our communities. Using multiple accounts is not a satisfying option, I want to name the the groups.
