Australia's first public tool library opens in Brisbane and instead of books and magazines, library members borrow power tools, lawnmowers and whipper snippers.
We have one in my town and it is such a huge asset to the community, at least in my eyes. It’s NOTAFLOF (no one turned away for lack of funds), you can choose your yearly donation amount and like half if the tools are free where the others are extremely cheap. I was able to rent a battery powered lawnmower, battery powered string trimmer, loppers, rake, and weed puller for like 10 dollars, and you’re able to keep this stuff for a week. We dont have camping gear and household appliances but all sorts of tools, they also have giant cider presses too!
Lots of universities often have sports equipment rentals as well for pretty cheap; any camping gear you can dream up, kayaks, whatever. I wish resource sharing like that were more common, it would probably make it easier to get to know neighbors that way.
