Bad news, it’s people over 30 too. Kinda obvious when you aren’t able to hit milestones and afford the life society “promised” you. One day you ask yourself “what’s the point?”
I know. I’m in my 50s and feel I have more in common with insecure young people than with the contented boomers we hear about.
I think this every time with these articles.
You think they’re unhappy? Go ask the parents of these under-30s, who should be retiring but are likely still working to support their adult kids, how they feel!

Yes, I am that parent. I have no money for retirement, and I don’t own a house, and my income is entirely spent on the family. I feel pretty insecure and a bit bad that I don’t have the means to leave them anything when I die.

If that was the case then we’d have legislation that taxes property speculators - we do not. In fact I keep hearing how they want to protect “mom and pop” landlords, or how landlords are doing a service by providing rentals.
ONLY the provincial Green Party has proposed doing fuck all about speculators. Speculators became a larger segment of the market than first time buyers a few years back.

I hate to break it to you, that’s a sentiment the human race shares as a whole.
Not the over-60s in Canada, according to this article. It’s painful watching them fumble around for reasons why young people might not be happy though. Apparently being unable to afford to live your life of wage slavery in a burning country whose social infrastructure is being dismantled on a planet that’s being destroyed so billionaires can become trillionaires while the world turns to fascism and war is not enough.
You covered it implicitly here but I’ll state explicitly that corporate media’s narrow perspective and reluctance to seriously investigate real issues doesn’t help either. It’s creating a dystopian effect.

Sometimes i’ll find the energy to go out and try and meet people. I get nowhere because everyone is either depressed or an outright fascist. You can’t even go out to meet people any more because of perpetual plagues, and the online space is full of grifting apps designed to fuck you.
Even if I did find someone, then what? Nobody wants to have kids, and get a home? Nope, that’s only for rich investors who have no intention on living in them, or corporate landlords who want to fuck you up the ass and turn you into a Maoist. Jobs? “Nobody wants to work” more like nobody wants to hire. “Now Hiring” signs everywhere but impossible requirements or unlivable wages. They’d rather just farm the government for ‘we can’t find employees:(((’ handouts. Don’t say it isn’t happening, that’s literally what my last job did, and it’s not just them; everyone does it. You have to do it to be competitive in this garbage economy.
I’m watching my local town gentrify in real time. Rents are going up, food is going up, forests are being cut down to build more fucking suburbs. What was once a community of diverse peoples is slowly turning into oops all white liberals because they’re the only ones who can afford to live here anymore. And you want to know the best part? Nothing is being done about it. The more we cry we need help the more the government responds with more fucking liberalism. People worried about the environment? Redistrict to “lower” emissions. People want more homes? Did I hear rental properties? More rental properties that nobody can afford!! Affordable housing? Sure, have some slums. Indigenous reparations? How about business courses instead! Poor/mentally sick? Now you can legally kill yourself… if you don’t do it yourself because mental health hotlines literally run for profit and sell your data to evil corporations. Like holy shit I can’t even begin to get into just how fucked things are.
Sure we’re not the states which is literally death-sliding into fascism, but being marginally better than pure evil is still really fucking shitty.
EDIT: Also we can’t even retreat to the internet to escape any more, because everything is either shutting down or turning into nazi bars. Corporations have so much control over the public consciousness and they use it to suppress socialist voices and protect actual pedophiles. Social media feels so fucking fake between all the artificial users, ads, astroturf, narcissist-posting and widespread censorship it exposes us to.
EDIT2: And i’ll add another one: you can’t even be fucking real with people anymore because the instant you show any level of weakness or honesty there’s always one scum of the earth (yes this shit is even worse in real life) who will jump to punish you for opening up.

I think it depends on what instance you are on, but thanks for the info.
It shouldn’t make a difference which instance you are on, but a lot of the aps do formatting incorrectly.

Who the fuck considers living with roommates until you’re moved into a public old age home, assuming they even exist by then, a ‘good life’? Kids today are worse off than kids 20 years ago, fact.

Not only are ‘we’ down (the royal ‘we’ of renters), we’re getting kicked while we’re there.
And unlike a mortgage, you build no equity with renting. When you own and pay into the mortgage, you at least get some of your investment back when you sell and move. You get nothing back out of paying rent when it is time to move.
Homes going up by nearly 10% per year is a huge part of the problem. If a home cost 500k one year, then goes up 10%, its now 550k. How the hell is a person expected to obtain a home when they are increasing by the persons total annual salary of 50k each year?
