Hi all,

I’m seeing a lot of hate for capitalism here, and I’m wondering why that is and what the rationale behind it is. I’m pretty pro-capitalism myself, so I want to see the logic on the other side of the fence.

If this isn’t the right forum for a political/economic discussion-- I’m happy to take this somewhere else.

Cheers!

    I’m just saying:

We could probably persuade this person or set them on a path to, err, seeing “the other side of the fence,” so to speak…

Absolutely. It goes “educate, agitate, organize” for a reason. In the imperial core being a capitalist is a default state of things, so it’s up to us to help people see differently. More and more people are being shoved into the contradictions of capitalism face-first through economic crises, wars, climate disasters, and reactionary policies and policing. But there’s still a lot of privileged people who are personally insulated from the direct effects. Having them on our side is much better than letting them fall into the (shortest ever) liberal-fascist pipeline. That’s where educating comes in, when we have to charitably explain stuff at the risk of the person not being genuine and wasting our effort.

Frankly, we’d be doing them a favor by patiently explaining things to them if they’re so interested in the “other side.”

This is a great opportunity to persuade them with respect and patience rather than argue with them when they’re strictly against our side (which, in this case, they seem not to be).

Bro is asking questions with sincerity, they don’t seem like they are broaching the topic with an intent to “debate” so im not bothered. Asking questions and learning is a huge part of re-educating yourself, i wouldnt be where i am if i hadn’t posted on askchapo asking for resources. Being pro-capitalism is cringe but thats the default within the imperial core. I dont think we should dunk on someone who wants hear our perspective.

This doesn’t seem quite that reactionary.

They seem more clueless than anything but seem genuinely interested at the same time…

On one hand there’s a not-insignificant chance the guy is just JAQing off, but on the other seems to be genuinely high on the kool-aid.

I’m very scared when people suggest “down with capitalism!” because it’s a pretty decent system and I worry about tearing society down unless we have very good reasons to believe it’ll be better for it.

This is the core of their stance. They seem to have their pivot point at medieval europe where of course capitalism would look good. Throw in a bunch of econ disinformation and you have a world that only makes sense in the idealized way it was presented to them.

Recommend them Peoples Republic of Walmart. Show them that socialism is just an evolution to the way things are already being done. It’s why I love the syndicalists’ “extend democracy to the workplace” line so much, because it explains what they want in a way that instantly makes sense, dispels misconceptions, and gets people excited for the future rather than afraid of everything changing in ways they don’t understand.

Wait a minute, how is the post locked even though none of the modlogs say that post was locked? And I can’t seem to find it at all on ml.

EDIT: Oh the post is 8 months old. I was looking at most recent and that’s why I didn’t find anything. EDIT2: Found the post on ml but absolutely scrapped the entire modlog and zero entry of it being locked. Not entirely sure how that’s possible or if I just somehow missed it.
