French President Emmanuel Macron said in an interview published Saturday evening that Western ground operations in Ukraine might be necessary “at some point”, days after meeting with German and Polish leaders.
I mean russia ruled out attacking Ukraine and we saw how that went. So why would Macron rule out anything.
I hope that these declarations will be sufficient to bring back Putin to the negotiation table
Good. Ukraine must win, no matter the price.
Can a NATO country put boots on the ground without triggering article 5? Even back line support would be extremely helpful. I mean, if putin pushes the nuke button there won’t be a Russia anymore.
Article 5 is only triggered when a NATO country is attacked in their territory, so no.
The problem is that Russia might interpret it as NATO officially entering the conflict and react accordingly.
In which case all of NATO would be drawn into the conflict. Something Russia probably wants even less.
He’s probably hoping (and almost certainly working behind the scenes to make it happen ie Trump and similar) that NATO wouldn’t join in. We’re paying the price for our inaction amd policies over the past seventy five years or so.
It’s now going to be even more expensive in money, suffering and lives.
Someone should remind him that last time it didn’t go quite well.
Good thing he talks about Ukraine and not Russia then. :-)
Someone should remind you that Poles parked in Moscow for a year. Also, read the title - in Ukraine.
Macron’s “débâcle”, to say it with a French word, would be funny to witness so I hope he continues down this path.
What the fuck does that even mean. No relating to my comment, you just stand on your soapbox saying shit that doesn’t make sense.
