I’m having trouble searching for / subscribing to some small communities on small instances. They don’t show up in the search. It doesn’t matter whether I use the community name or the. !xxx@yyy.zzz format.

I don’t know if this is a Jerboa issue or due to my “home” instance or a federation problem.

I’d like to both solve my problem and better understand how federation search works. Anyone have some insight?

The initial search doesn’t work in Jerboa. You have to do it in the web interface of your instance. Search once for !xxx@yyy.zzz on web and after that you do a normal community search in Jerboa for xxx

I’ve had the same issue, but in browser; not using Jerboa. I tried from another instance and it worked. Other communities on the instance worked okay, so it was just that one specific community not working from that one instance.

Someone educated me the other day and taught me to use a URL of yourinstance/c/communityname@otherinstance

That seems to work better for me after doing the search you suggested. Takes a minute or two though for it to start showing. From there you can subscribe and then it will show in the app.
