I think if we could “silence” NSFW communities so you wouldn’t see their posts until you’ve followed them then it should work. Right now, as far as I know, our tools aren’t very fine grained. This should be a temporary block until we can sort out how we can get more control over what shows up where.
Isn’t that pretty much exactly what the “Show NSFW content” toggle on your user settings is for?
No, since it’s been pornography we don’t want to deal with and NSFW covers a lot more. Additionally I’m not sure if Lemmy designates entire communities as NSFW somehow or if it’s just individual posts, which would mean the communities still show up in lists.
We’re currently working on a bit more comprehensive moderation framework of sort and I’m sure we’ll discuss this over a fair bit. Blocking an entire instance is far too destructive a measure here so I don’t see this block lasting very long.
I’ve heard that Vlemmy is currently thinking about this too. If I remember it right, they want to forbid displaying controversial communities in the All option, but they want to give you the option to subscribe to those if you want. Do you plan to do something similar?
Oh so this instance blocking is only a temporary thing? Good to hear that. ^^
