I’ve heard that one of the big features of Lemmy is that users from one instance can interact and follow users from different instances. But I can’t figure out how exactly that works. I made a community earlier (on mander.xyz) and when I tried searching for it from a different instance (lemmy.world) it wouldn’t show up. However, a comment I made on another post made by lemmy.world user on lemmy.ml did show up. How does this work?
I had this issue as well for a community i made in another instance. If no one from your instance has looked at it before it won’t sync. to force the check in the search use !community@website.url The bang before forces the check and should help find it
it’s still not working…
Interesting. I just logged in with my lemmy.world user and was able to find the community and make a comment on it. Can you try again and see if its still not showing up?
I’ve seen your comment. I was logged out and it works now that I’ve made an account on lemmy.world and signed in. Thanks!
UPDATE: It works after signing in! Thanks a lot!
Did you have to do anything to become federated? I’m having trouble discovering other communities on mine
Have you already confirmed that you can search for other communities belonging to other instances?
Yes, it had to do with me being signed out on lemmy.world
This is exactly what I’m trying to figure out. I’m trying to subscribe to some communities on mander.xyz but am having a lot of troubles because it’s on a different instance. I would love further insight into this.
