I’m wanting to create a new community here on Lemmy, but I’m worried that it won’t gain any traction unless I advertise it a little bit. Is there a community where people can advertise newly made communities?
IMO it’s fine to just make a post about it in one of the larger communities that seems appropriate. Now is exactly the time for us to promote one another! And Lemmy doesn’t have an algorithm, so you’re going to have to do some leg work to get the word out. I think people will be appreciative and understanding of that, I would be.
There are two I am aware of! But I also don’t think people mind seeing promoting posts right now in any of the more active communities. We’re all looking for new things to check out. !wowthislemmyexists@lemmy.ca !communitypromo@lemmy.ca
yes, it’s “new communities”

I think a lot of people browse ‘all’, so creating the community and then going to the main instances and subscribing to it from there is a good way to get it to show up in the Feeds.
Then post lots of content to the community to jumpstart it might work?
I’m curious about this for instances, I’ve created one but have no idea how to “plug” it in a way that isn’t obnoxious lol
There is a server instance that has been specifically set up to mimic /r/all. It tries to subscribe to every community in the network and aggregate everything that is posted. There’s also a “promo” and a “suggest” chats there. https://lemmy.directory/post/34207
Hi there! Looks like you linked to a Lemmy community using a URL instead of its name, which doesn’t work well for people on different instances. Try fixing it like this: !newcommunities@lemmy.world
