Wouldn’t it be better to say “these are the users the platform will have” than “we can’t keep our service up so there are no users at all”?

If there is no Reddit, there is no statistic on how severe the user drop is due to the subs that went private. That’s probably better for the IPO.

It would be better to say “site was down for maintenance” than “millions of our users are pissed”
Honestly seems pretty likely, it’s got to be pretty bad press for them with so many subs going private.
The pretty bad press is already there. Some dude told me it’s on BBC, for example.
It could be an obfuscation for the drop in overall traffic for sure, but that’s pretty transparent if they try that sort of thing.
But wouldn’t the modders response be “well, we’ll just extend the boycott for another day or two”?
