Tbh, this seems totally reasonable and more places should do this. These people may have a mental issue, however have proven that they cannot be trusted. Although it’s worth noting this won’t completely halt sex drive, but reduce it.

      My first reaction is yes.

My second reaction that this is bad for the same reason as the death penalty. These penalties are permanent for the wrongly convicted too.

Yeah, also I don’t trust a government to have the power to enact cruel punishments even for reprehensible crimes. It just incentivizes the government to find ways to frame things it doesn’t like as those crimes.

Yeah there’s always that. It is true, but there is still permanency in losing the years in jail. Maybe they just need to be more strict on who gets castrated. I.E only after serving the full sentance and being released.

Every day in jail is an opportunity to reverse an unjust ruling. (Probably not applicable to all countries.) Death and dismemberment is immediate, definitive, and unnecessary. If that happened to just one innocent person, I would say it’s not worth it.

Amnesty International is really showing their neoliberal bias with this one. There are a zillion takes that they could have used to say this is wrong, “child rapists deserve dignity” was far from their best choice, but it certainly is the most revealing one.
