So I’ve been using Duolingo long enough that it’s become background noise: think I’m on a 780-some streak at this point.

I’m essentially only dropping by daily to do one lesson and maintain the streak, as opposed to actually wanting to learn something new. It’s probably not helped by the new unit structure constantly repeating things that have just been covered; I think this is the fourth time I’ve worked through the weekdays in Hindi…

Which is all to ask: for those lemmites (lemmings?) who are on a long streak, how do you get the passion back?

    That’s the neat part, you don’t

    Honestly I joined this community saying “I won’t be cynical” but pretty much everyone who’s used Duolingo for a long time grows bad feelings towards it

      Yeah, Duo can be decent for someone who’s just starting out and needs a couple of exercises. But otherwise it’s repetitive, boring and way too restrictive when it comes to translation exercises.

    I watch videos about languages (serious or not) and i also try to hear and speak the language weekly. But i also use the old layout and sometimes when school happens as well

    I found it was a motivation beyond just the language itself. I want to learn my language (German) because of my family history and would like to visit my ancestors country one day and speak the language.

    I certainly ebb and flow with respect to how many lessons I do each day, but wherever I get down I just think about how fun it will be to take that trip and talk to the people. Makes me realize how much I take that for granted in an English speaking country.

    I think if you relate the language to something personal to you, it will help to drive you to learn more.

    Also, learning a new language has really helped in crossword clues (seriously).

    This. I’m just at ~300 day streak and already had some hindi knowledge as it was taught in school for some years.

    Earlier i loved the time when 3-4 units could be started together ,but this repetition thing feels so bad. I dont even do the last 2 lessons in units since it gives no new words and just skip to next unit.

    And sorry i have no solution for you. But having some friends to learn together is a good way. I even imagine it like having a competition with them. It helps me to not waste streakfreezes.
