Nextcloud on a cheap storage VPS is the answer here. With integration in Dolphin file manager, the setup is complete.

I use nextcloud, except on a rented server with hetzner. If I need to store sensitive personal info I usually use an rclone crypt. It’s been a rock solid setup for the past 10 months or so that I’ve had it

Depends how frugal you want to be. If you really want to scrape the bottom of the barrel, perusing LowEndBox is a good start.

You don’t have to use their proprietary client to use their proprietary service. You can use a 3rd party client.

On my phone I use Solid Explorer as my file manager which also has cloud integration

If you’re stuck with Google Drive, you could use something like Cryptomator to keep your files encrypted and unscannable by Google.

Thankfully I have no need for cloud at all, but I agree that Cryptomator is a really good tool.

Shoutout to rclone as well. Supports multiple file hosters and has an optional transparent encryption layer similar to Cryptomator. On Linux you can even mount your cloud folders using FUSE!
