Anything good?
I’m hoping to get some time to play Return of the Obra Dinn if I could get any significant amount of time blocked off to game.
I got started with Death Stranding, since it was available for free on the Epic Games store recently. I’m definitely positively surprised by the storyline and how well-made the character models/animations are. The walking/balancing gameplay is a bit more annoying than I anticipated, though!

Hehe, cool to hear! I barely played Metal Gear (only a tiny bit on Nintendo 3DS, I believe), but I’m also curious to try out Metal Gear Solid V with its open-world and experimental gameplay. Definitely fits this Patient Gamers community, as MGSV is even older than Death Stranding…

Haha, thanks a lot! That’s a lot of interesting input that I’ll keep in mind when approaching the Metal Gear series! And yes, in general I enjoy the complex storylines and not being able to understand everything immediately. I actually once saw an attempt of a summary of the Metal Gear storyline on YouTube and enjoyed how ridiculously complex and convoluted it is. It’s a shame there was some drama around Kojima/Konami, but it’s also good that Kojima found a way to keep going and stay creative. :)
That one was a big surprise since it was my first Kojima game and I have to say, it did a big impression on me and kept me thinking about it for weeks after I had finished it. I agree, the walking/balancing is something you need to get used to, but after that it totally adds to the immersion. Also, there will be other means of transportation later on. They all come with their pros and cons. I envy you a little, this is a game where I’d like to wipe my memory and start all over again. Have a great time!
Playing Mass Effect 2 for the first time and loving it. By the time I make it through 3 it might be close to FFVII part two releasing
I haven’t played any of that series. I think I own the first game though.
Definitely a recommendation?
I’m digging it, I had only ever played the first one but decided to run through all three as it was a PS giveaway last year. I would recommend giving the first one a few hours at least, it is pretty exposition heavy to start

I somehow missed the entire Mass Effect trilogy, but claimed it on PS+ last year and am planning to run through it during a nice lull. 2023 has been insane so far and one of the few years I have barely been patient. Good chance I might be getting into that one around the holidays so I have a nice chunk of time to get through all 3.
I finished it for the first time on the Steam Deck a couple of months ago. I loved it but I think I prefer the first one. I started the third one but haven’t gotten very far in so far, not sure whether I like it.

I’m playing Horizon Zero Dawn on the steam deck. Loving it so far!
I have that sitting in my Steam library waiting for me to play it. Maybe I’ll do it on the deck as well.
I assume it runs fine on the deck?
Yup, it runs great out of the box. I didn’t really change any graphics options and left everything to their defaults.
I’m starting Factorio back up again, for better or worse… Just the other day I finally launched my first rocket! Feels good only took me 6.5 years of on and off play
Playing the Spider-Man Remake on PS5 now. Very cool game. Got it after playing Miles Morales.

Mostly just failing to Slay the Spire
That’s how it’s played!
@Subtex TotK if we’re being honest.
But before that I was *obsessed* with SpaceChem, and will likely return once I’m done romping through Hyrule making extremely simple machines that fail at their basic tasks.
My son just bought TotK and I’m home sing to play it, but I’m already midway through AC Odyssey and Horizon Call of the Mountain, so I need to finish those first.
I’m starting to play subnautica for the first time! I’ve heard good things but I’m finding the start a little slow, the loop hasn’t quite got me invested yet.
Love return of the Obra Dinn. Hope you enjoy it!
Subnautica is one of my favorite games. I had to pause my playthrough though because I was so tense playing it, kept setting off my thalassophobia. They do an amazing job creating a feeling of isolation.
sure hope you like having thalassophobia its a great game just be ready for some scares
You’re in for a treat then! I never got around to finish it (Subnautica) though. Some parts are just so scary & isolating that I stopped playing, the devs did an amazing job at that! 🔥
Resident Evil 2 remake. Finished the first one last week and now I’m hooked! I can’t believe I waited so long to play the RE games, but with all the remakes maybe it was actually perfect timing. RE2 remake is great so far.
Pokemon Trading Card Game 2: Great Rocket Attacks. There’s a translation and I’m playing it on a retroconsole.
It’s literally a “MORE OF IT!” sequel in the same engine to Pokemon TCG, except with twice the cards, a second island, and all of the old content is eventually available. They also improve on some AI quirks, and nearly all characters now have three portraits to show happiness and sadness. Also, the opponent decks are tremendously more well thought out (ez example: Electric users usually also have bird pokemon that resist the Fighting/Ground decks you’re going to bring against them) so you could pretty much see it as a full blown DLC Sequel. It’s also longer, way longer.
I wish I had this game as a kid. I have no idea why they didn’t export it outside Japan. Pokemon Stuff was selling for truckloads between gen 1 and 2.
I’ve been playing Warhammer on the Return of Reckoning server. It holds up pretty well for an older game, and the pvp is fun. I’ve also been playing a little Diablo 2 and 7 Days to Die, with a soupcon of Civ IV
I love RoR! I come back every few months to enjoy the nostalgia. Such a missed opportunity that game was :(
I’ve just started The Dig which I fell in love with immediately. I’ve taken a little 20 year hiatus on adventure games but have got back into them this year.
Being an old time-starved patient gamer, I very happily keep a walkthrough tab open for whenever I fancy it. Highly recommended if you want to experience some classic games to the end but skip the frustrations and wasted evenings.
Was probably my favorite game - let alone favorite adventure - when it came out. The music is fantastic, and so is the story. I remember some puzzles being a bit too goldbergian, but as you say, nothing that a walkthrough can’t alleviate.
Pillars of Eternity. I haven’t gotten very far yet but it seems like an incredible game.
